Navigate your back-to-work like a pro
Already tired of your start of the year?
Students know it well – Going back to a busy schedule after a break is pretty difficult. And we professionals know it well too, especially when having a break from work is so difficult. After some years in the industry, I tried and found out some tips to ensure a smooth “back to work” transition.
1. Take it easy
I know it sounds obvious but… really, take it easy! There is no need to do everything all together. Start with the most urgent things and face the rest at your own pace (remember – slow and steady wins the race!).
2. Upgrade your schedule slowly
Allow yourself to go slowly, at least in the first two, three days after the holidays. Start later in the morning and finish earlier in the afternoon, take longer breaks, and stop if you’re tired. Remember point 1.
3. Don’t push yourself too much
You don’t need to have everything already figured out and scheduled. I know New Year’s Eve is something of a to-do-list moment, but this can push you to rush and shoot too high and maybe set too difficult milestones to keep up with – eventually abandoning them in February and feeling… well, you know that. If you feel the need to push too much, go back to points 1 & 2.
4. Change something in your environment
Monotony can kill even the bravest. Even the slightest change can make your space feel different and give you another (positive) vibe to tackle your days with. So move your desk, change your mouse pad, light a scented candle. Buy a new agenda. Make things funnier with a weird pencil. Attach a motivational sticker to your desktop (and change your wallpaper if you haven’t done it in years).
5. Clean your space
A clean space means a clear mind. I’m not talking (only) about dusting it but removing all unnecessary things that have been wandering there for ages (yes, including that old note/receipt that has been there since 2020)
6. Go green
Plants can make your space lighter, cleaner, and more enjoyable. Moreover, there is evidence that they can clean the air and absorb some of the technology-emitted heat/pollution that fill your workplace (try googling Bamboo or Dypsis lutescens). Also Photos and Aloe can be a good choice, as they are plants that need very little care and can adapt to different environments.
7. Go crystal clear
And if you are more into holistic vibes, you can try crystals as well. Shungite is proven to fight electromagnetic waves so it’s perfect to put onto your desk. Amethyst and Quartz may help you focus, Tiger’s Eye is said to be a lucky stone, and Aventurine can keep you grounded and calm during stressing days.
